I'M BACK!!!
Let's see, since the last time I posted I have probably turned eighteen, graduated high school and now I'm at good old University of South Dakota. I've been busy busy busy. But, the great news is that I have started writing again. Yay! It's just a little bit here and there, but I'm so happy that I've gotten back into it because I've really missed it.
Let's see... I really can't think of much else to add to this. I may or may not have just decided to post this because Bailey told me to. :) Have a great day!!
Oh, PS: We missed Mandy's birthday a couple weeks ago.. So.. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY MANDY!!! :D

Senior Year: Slightly Overrated (In My Opinion)
Everyone I've ever talked to (okay maybe not everyone, but you get my point) has said that senior year was the best year of high school. So I take that partly as my reasoning for why it'll get better. The other part is going to be me and my friends trying lots of new things, probably getting into a little bit of trouble, and most importantly, having fun and making memories! So although things like finishing my college applications, applying for scholarships and grants, graduation, and leaving the place that for 18 years I've come to know as my home (even though I despise it here!) seem daunting, I know that with some help and support from my gurrrls and my friends, I can get through anything!
P.S. I am really going to try and keep posting things about my vacation, I just got really busy! Much love, XOXO

Procrastination is NEVER the answer
So although I always tell myself that I won't procrastinate anymore, I never take my own advice. I know, life would probably be a lot easier if I actually did things as they were assigned, but I just don't. I am a procrastinator, it is my nature to put things off until the last minute. So what have I put off this time? My summer reading assignment. My assignment was to read the assigned books (Madame Bovary and Their Eyes Were Watching God), and then complete a reading journal (consisting of character dissections, quotes and their relevance, etc.), to be turned in on the first day of school. Well about three weeks ago, I started reading Madame Bovary, and at the point of writing this blog, I have finally finished reading it. I have not started the reading journal for it. School starts Monday. I have 5 days, count em, FIVE, to read Their Eyes Were Watching God and do my reading journals for both books.
Although this might have some people worried (my mom, especially!), I am not even remotely worried. I know that I will have plenty of time to complete my assignment to the best of my ability. Even with all of the other things I have to do that all seem to be happening this weekend. So although I am putting things off until the end, I am not leaving myself without enough time to complete all that is required of me. So I suppose the moral to this story is that, although procrastination is a terrible habit, if you're going to do it, leave yourself enough time to complete everything to the best of your abilities.
My goal for this school year is to be more organized. I've purchased TWO calendars (one for my wall and one to keep in my purse at all times) and I am going to be more aware of due dates and things like that. This senior year is sure to be stressful with college applications and such, but with just a little organization, I'm sure that I can avoid some unwanted worries.
My advice? Don;t make more commitments than you can keep. Don't spread yourself thin trying to do as much as is inhumanly possible. Take on what you can handle while still doing your best. Because if it's not worth doing your best on, it isn't worth doing at all.

Sorry for being MIA
It started out on July 2nd. I boarded a flight on British Airways from LAX to Heathrow Airport in London. Although it was a 10 hour flight, it seemed to fly by (pun intended) because it was a really nice plane. Everyone had their own television screen and could choose what they wanted to do with it. There was TV, movies, music, and games. I watched 5 movies on the flight when I should have been sleeping, but I enjoyed myself. Then, once we finally landed (on the morning of July 3rd), I was very excited. We got our bags, met our guide for the trip, got onto our coach, etc. We started driving into London, which seemed to take forever. Then we made it to Hampton Court Palace, which was gorgeous! I wonder why someone honestly needs all of that space, but whatever floats your boat, King Henry VIII... After that we went back to the hotel and got to rest.
The next day we had a guide take us around the city of London. She was very knowledgeable and showed us a lot of things. I really enjoyed her tour because she pointed out a lot of things that were put into the Harry Potter films, like the Millennium Bridge (in Half-Blood Prince) and the Australia House, which served as the inside of Gringotts bank in Philosopher's Stone. Then we got to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. No spotting of Her Majesty though, because she was off doing things for her Diamond Jubilee. After that, we got to go to the Tower of London and see things such as the Crown Jewels (really ugly, if you ask me) and King Henry VIII's suit of armor, with a codpiece that you couldn't help but think that there had to be some exaggeration going on there! Afterwards, we got a little time to shop in the West End, and then we headed off to go see Wicked! This was my 2nd time seeing Wicked, and although I enjoyed it more my first time on Broadway, I still loved it just as much!
Then July 5th came, and it was our last day in England, which made me incredibly sad. We got to go on the London Eye, which offers some pretty amazing views of London. Then we did a little souvenir shopping, and I got myself an Oxford University jacket, which is now my favorite jacket in the world! After that we got to meet a former Member of Parliament, who was incredibly kind, and had a great sense of humor. After that, we went to Covent Garden, which is a shopping center with souvenir type shops as well as with "normal stores" like Sunglass Hut and Build-A-Bear. We got a few hours there, so it was a nice leisurely time to shop. Then we headed to Portsmouth, England, where we had dinner and then boarded our ferry that took us to France overnight. It was almost like a cruise ship, but not nearly as nice, and the rooms were EVEN SMALLER! But it was an effective way of getting us across the English Channel.
I'll post my stories about France tomorrow or something... don't wan't to overload you guys and bore you, or anything like that!

How Much Can You Fit On Your Plate?
I'm sure I'm not the only one this happens to. Someone close to you asks you to be a part of something and you don't want to say no and let them down. Not only that but you really want to be a part of the project, whatever it may be. Or maybe, you underestimate the time commitment. Stuff like this happens to me all the time, until I realize that I have way more going on than I can handle and it makes me want to do none of it. Right now I'm on summer break but usually I've got school, work on Hogwarts Radio, work on Shadowkissed.net, editing and recording the podcast for SK.net, this blog, possibly two new podcasts, writing, and then of course, life.
The point of this is to show that you have to know what you can handle and when to say no. I find that even though I enjoy all of these things, the sheer amount of things I have to do overwhelms me and prevents me from doing any of it. I need to learn when to say no and what I can handle. This is the only way that the important things will get done. I think everyone deals with this at some point on some scale, maybe more or less than I do. So let's all try to balance our workloads a little better! And I'll try to post more regularly!
Until next time! xoxo

(Reading this post back, I realize that in my quest to get my thoughts out, my post turned out very rambly and my point is poorly made. Oh, well. Sorry!)
For a long while...
I know that school is important and all, that it helps us to become who we are, blah blah blah. But I've been ready for summer break since... oh about February. I've had so-called "senioritis" (the sickness when you're a senior and you don't have the motivation to do anything related to school because you're so ready for it to be over) for about three months, and I'm not even a senior yet! I can only imagine how bad it'll get next year.
After I walk out of my college class tonight, I will officially be a senior in high school. It is so weird to think that in just a year, I will be graduating from high school. In a little over 4 months, I will begin applying to colleges. Everything just seems to be crashing down all at once, and I'll be honest, things are a little bit overwhelming. But I'm going to just take things one day at a time.
Until next time! DFTBA!
(P.S. I hope to be much more regular with my posts now that it is summer break! Although I can make no promises whilst I am on vacation; I won't have access to a computer!)

H-Y-P-AB-LE
An example of too much hype: this blog. It was more of a personal hype. I was very excited because it is Summer so I figured there would be a ton of times for posts and writing and mermaids (hint hint!!) and so many other things. No. There never seem to be enough hours in the day to do everything you need to. Today happens to be an anomaly for me. I am guessing my other gurrrls feel the same seeing as how I am posting twice in a row and they are about 2 weeks apart (another hint!). I digress.
An example of hype worth: Potter. No one can tell me that the hype leading up to a Potter release is unworthy. The midnight parties, the long debates and discussions, the many hours of speculation. All are memories I will never forget. It made the experience more of a journey than a staccato interruption of life. It was a life. Even if we were let down by something in the movie or saddened by an event in the book, the hype was worth it.
Without hype there would be no anticipation, no excitement, nothing to look forward to in life. We need hype to make life exciting once in a while and to give us something to do and to look forward to when needed. Sometimes we go a little overboard. All the hype surrounding Pottermore it what killed it in my opinion. It was fun to get the news, to wait for it, to be excited, but when the time came and we were disappointed then the hype just became annoying. Don't get me wrong, I am a proud Ravenclaw in Pottermore and I love that JKR gave it to us out of love and released the new material, but a little more organization would have been spectacular. We are a demanding fandom after all. Again, I digress.
My closing thought is that even though hype sometimes can ruin something in the end, it is the beginning that is always the fun part. And I don't know about you but personally I don't have the capability of hindsight needed to distinguish the good hype from the bad. I just believe that we need hype, but maybe sometimes just in smaller quantities.

So although I said I would never do it...
As much as I tried to deny the reality that my original choice was not the right option for me, I decided to give in and change it, because I don't want to live the rest of my life with regret for not doing what I wanted. My original major choice was a double major in Business Administration and English. I wanted to open my own bakery, and write on the side, just for myself. But being a baker just isn't realistic for me: I have scoliosis, and though it doesn't look like it affects me, standing for long amounts of time puts me in loads of pain. Sooooo, long story short, I have decided to change my major from Business Administration/English to a major in Journalism and a minor in English. And I feel like I will be able to enjoy that a ton more that I could have with my prior choice.
There's just one small problem: I have to tell my mom. I feel like she is going to be really judgmental about this. She's always been the one to support whatever I want to do, but I think she'll just question my decision. "Are you sure that's what you want to do?", etc. So hopefully this won't turn out bad. If I don't post ever again... you know something bad happened. Just kidding... or not.

Please Forgive Us
So now to writing. Today, in my English class, we were going over essays that we wrote a month or so ago, and the teacher was asking for people to volunteer their paper to be shown on the board as an example of how to edit our papers to a "publishable draft" as our teacher calls it. So, being the good student I am, I volunteered mine for everyone to look at, thinking "Oh, so what if they see how horribly I did on my paper," (I didn't ever finish reading the book that we were supposed to, so I assumed that I did horribly on the paper). So the teacher pulls up my paper, scrolls through it and there are no errors in my paper. Not a single one. I was shocked. It was a pleasant surprise, and it makes me have more confidence in my writing, but I am still a very self-conscious writer. I am always wondering if what I've written is good enough, or if people'll like it. That it another thing that I want to start working on though: having more faith in my writing, and not caring whether others like it or not. My writing should make me happy, no matter how good or bad it is.
I'll be back on Friday with my regularly scheduled post for everyone :)

Handful of Randoms
I have been working my tail off in school and living on someone couch for the past 3 weeks since moving to Harrison. My life has been absolutely crazy ridiculous. Wedding, school, moving, and I know you are all completely tired of me ranting on about it. But you talk about your life and that is mine right now. So there is my apology. As 10 would say, "I'm Sorry. I'm so sorry."
Also, in case you haven't heard,
Yes yes we are ALL very very excited. You can get all the details available here at her new site. However, in all this excitement, I am slightly sad. I may be the only one but I would like to know where her old site went? It was beautiful! This one just does not remind me of her style at all. Yes there are the scribbles and such but I want the desk and the locked door and the barking dogs back!
Finally, I have actually written a little in my own story. I think I may have written the end. I don't know if I have mentioned it but I want it to be a four book series. This may be the end of the fourth book. Or possibly the third but if that is the case then I have a lot to work around for the fourth. There is much much editing to be done however. Nothing is ever perfect the first time. So on with the editing.
And lastly (because I lied when I said finally), I have been listening to a new hilarious and thought provoking podcast about books! You can enjoy it here. Rider Strong is one of the hosts so don't be shocked to hear Shawn Hunter's dulcet tones coming through your speakers. It is a delight.
Have a wonderful rest of the month and I will see you all again after finals when I will finally FINALLY be able to take a breath again.

What a Day/Night!
Okay. Last night was probably one of the best nights of my life. Why, you might be asking? Well, because I got to see The Hunger Games at midnight. It was the first midnight showing that I've ever gotten to go to (though I wanted to go to many a Potter one!), so it was a really cool experience. I got to the theater around 5-ish. I wanted to get there earlier, but I had a test in my Spanish class, so I kinda needed to go to my class. We waited around outside with loads of other people, and played many games of "Kill, Maim, Alliance," a very fun game, I might add. We ate "Hunger Games-y" food, and just had a great time. Then, almost at 9, they let us go into our theater. Three hours might seem like a long time to wait for a movie to start, but with all of my friends there and other fans, along with a few video crews recording stuff for the news, etc. (we think one of them worked for TMZ!) the time just flew by. Before we knew it, it was 12:01 and the previews began.
I won't get into any details of thye movie, but I will say that it was SPECTACULAR! It exceeded my expectations by about a million-fold. As soon as the film was over, the first words out of my mouth were "Is it time for Catching Fire yet?" Too bad filming hasn't even begun.
I know that I should probably be tired, but I don't feel like I am. But after today (another action-packed day, where I'll be up for a long time again) I will probably pass out as soon as I get home. Well, thats all I;ve got for now :D

Anna and the French Kiss
I really enjoyed this book. The main characters really pull you in, especially Anna and St. Clair, who are both funny and full of wit. I felt like I could connect to Anna and could see where she was coming from in the ways she reacted to the events in her life. I think it's a great coming of age story, and it accurately portrays a girl at that age. I loved how throughout the story, the way Anna reacted to similar situations changed as she matured and grew up. Paris is an amazing city for this story to take place; it's like a character in its own right. From the title, I had assumed it was going to be a cliche, cookie-cutter book but it really surprised me with the depth of character and emotions."Anna was looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. So she's less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris—until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all . . . including a serious girlfriend. But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss? Stephanie Perkins keeps the romantic tension crackling and the attraction high in a debut guaranteed to make toes tingle and hearts melt."
If you're looking for a book to read (or even if you're not) I would highly recommend Anna and the French Kiss! Give it a read and come back here and comment letting us know what you thought! If you have read it, let us know now!

Just a few things...
I, like Amy, am a very self-conscious writer. I love writing. But I do occasionally get the feeling that I'm not good enough. Sometimes I don't know what to write, or how to word something. But I just keep chugging along, hoping something will come to me eventually. I don't think that my posts on here are particularly entertaining or anything, but I do enjoy writing this blog with my gurrrls. Sometimes I might come up with a witty remark, but for the most part I think I am boring.
I've not written anything for fun in a long time. Probably since the middle of January. But soon (after Girl Scout cookie season is over) I will get back to writing. I am even contemplating doing ScriptFrenzy this next month. But I don't know. Maybe I can talk my gurrrls into doing it with me (are you in?) and I'll be more motivated to actually do it. Well, thats all I've got to say at the moment, so I'll stop trying to think of things to put on here.
